Introduction

Social media’s great and all, but don’t sleep on emails when it comes to getting sales. Unlike social media platforms where captions are limited (and so is your customer’s attention span), emails give you the opportunity to connect with your clients in a real way on a consistent basis. Emails allow your audience to get to know more about you and what you do, which nurtures them to connect with and buy from you.

By growing your email list, you’ll keep a fresh pool of leads interested in what you have to offer. So as a business owner, prioritizing the growth of your email list means prioritizing your sales.

1. Stop wasting their time

As important as it is to get your customers looped into your email list in the first place, it’s even more important to keep them there. And nothing makes a potential client want to hit that “unsubscribe” button more than pointless content that just clutters their inbox.

Only email when you have something to say, and make sure that it’s worth their while. Ditch the clickbait for authentic headlines that give them a clear indication of what’s in the body of your email. Provide valuable content (educate, inform, inspire) that positions you as an authority they can trust.

The bottom line: once you have their attention, make the most of your moment.

2. Use a popup opt-in form on your website

Every discount counts. And offering your customers 10% off through a popup on your website is a surefire way to get them to sign up for your email list. And while they signed up for a sale, it’s your infectious personality and insightful emails that will keep them coming back for more.

You can also offer freebies, free trials, or exclusive content to get people looped into your list.

3. Plug a CTA into every blog post

And while you’re at it, make sure they’re at the bottom of your emails and captions, too. Honestly, any form of content you’re sharing should have some sort of CTA, (and it shouldn’t always be to buy from you).

A CTA that directs your audience to subscribe to your email list should point them in that direction for a reason. Remember, people already get more than enough emails a day. If you expect them to subscribe, you’ve got to give them a good reason. At the end of a blog post, you can encourage them to sign up for your email list to continue the conversation or learn more about a certain topic. *Cue automated email sequence on said topic*.

4. Segment your email list

Now this tip is golden. Remember, all of your subscribers didn’t join your list at the same time, so they’re at different stages in the buyer’s journey.

Using different lead magnets to segment your email list based on your subscribers’ interests or buying potential allows you to grow your list faster and send targeted email campaigns. This in turn will improve your open rates, click-through rates, and overall conversion rates.

5. Offer exclusive discounts during holiday sales

Holidays offer a prime opportunity to grow your email list. You can take advantage of this by:

  • Offering an exclusive coupon code
  • Creating a secret product just for visitors who sign up for your email list (people love exclusivity)
  • Giving subscribers access to sale items before the general public

6. Promote your landing page with a link in your IG bio

Leveraging your IG bio is a smart move for anyone hoping to sell on social. And plugging a link to your lead magnet’s landing page with an embedded email sign-up form is yet another way to get your followers to connect with you and your business outside of social media.

Growing your email list is simple when you utilize the many ways available to you to make it happen. Just remember our first tip – don’t waste your subscribers’ time once you’ve got their attention!
